Subject: EERR’s Midsummer Elvis Race tomorrow Message from Jamie Zucker June 20, 2022 10:58 am Hi all,
Sadly it looks like the rail and Tube strikes are going ahead tomorrow. I hope the travel information I provided you last week is useful.
To further facilitate your members’ attendance, I would like to offer each Elvis club a free parking space for a minibus. The space will be located outside the Velodpark (E20 3AB). Should you like to bring a minibus please could you provide me with the vehicle registration by 2pm tomorrow. And, please be aware that the carpark will close at 9pm.
You are also invited to our after party at Mother Kelly’s Bar, 27-30 Victory Parade, East Village, E20 1FS.
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow Jamie (EERR chair and Race Director)
Here’s a recap of the info I provided to you last week.
*Location* The race village and start/finish is located at Hopkins Field (near Waterden Road), Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, E20 3BS. Toilets are located about 400 metres away at the Velopark at E20 3AB.
*Travel* Eastern train from St Pancras.
*Busses* Busses 388, 97, 308, and W15 all stop within a 10 minutes’ walk of the start. A larger number of busses serve stratford station, which is around 30 mins walk from the start area.
*Cycling* There are five Santander Cycles stations (available for hire or docking) located within 5-mins walk of the start. There are also numerous bike racks in the area for cyclists bringing their own bikes (please bring your own lock). The closest racks are located outside Clarinco Club Cafe on Waterden Rd (E15 2GY).
*Car Parking* There are two large multi-storey carparks in the vicinity (parking charges apply): – The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Multi-Story Car Park (E15 2HB) is located by the Here East complex, just 5 mins’ walk from the race village. – Stratford International Station Car Park (E20 1YY) is located by Stratford International Station, which is about 15 mins’ walk away.
If travelling by car, we strongly encourage car sharing.
*By foot* In case you choose to walk or jog to the race, there are toilet and changing facilities (with lockers) available in the Velopark. Additionally, Elvis club reps are encouraged to organise their own bag drops in the race village in addition to the informal one that will be provided by the registration desk.
*Rail and Tube* Please be aware that Stratford, Stratford International, Hackney Wick and Leyton stations are all within a 20-minute walk of the start. Stratford station is served by a variety of Tube and Rail options, including the Central Line, Jubilee Line, Elizabeth Line, the London Overground the DLR and Greater Anglia rail services. Even if the strike does go ahead, some of the Tube lines are also expected to operate a limited service as are the railways with approximately 20% of train services until 6.30pm apparently (which will help people travel to the race, but will require another means of transport home). Stratford International station is served by the High Speed South Eastern.

Subject: Pacing in Elvis – Update Message from Martin Clarke June 19, 2022 6:37 am Hi Folks, Following my previous email I thank all who have provided input to allow me to come to a final decision on the alleged pacing incident at last Tuesday’s race. I’m especially grateful to Darren for speaking to both athletes that were involved.
From our collective findings I am satisfied that there was no pre conceived plan or intent to pace although it was unwise for Gemma, Morgan’s training partner, to participate in the race without a number. I also believe that no real advantage was gained and the result was the same as it would have been had Gemma been absent from the race. I think this was simply a case of both ladies not realising that their actions might cause a problem.
Given the circumstances and in the spirit of Elvis I don’t wish to take too hard a line on Morgan and considering both ladies have now apologised I have decided not to void Morgan’s result in Elvis and her 2nd place still stands.
Although the runners concerned do not belong to an Elvis Club may I ask club reps and organisers to ensure their members are aware of both the rules and spirit of Elvis moving forward. As I said in my previous email it is quite acceptable for officials to request that anyone running without a number immediately leave the course regardless of whether or not pacing is suspected.
For further clarity it has been brought to my attention that sometimes club runners will return after finishing to help out slower runners at the rear of the field. They may or may not still be displaying numbers and are also sometimes joined by non participants. In such cases this is perfectly acceptable as it is not classified as pacing and is simply encouraging slower runners at the rear of the field to finish and if anything exemplifies rather than contravenes the spirit of the series . It is also seldom likely that this has any tangible effect on the results.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or comments. I hope we can now draw a line under this and look forward to our next race at the Olympic Park hosted by our friends at EERR. Many thanks Martin

Subject: EERR Midsummer 5km Message from Jamie Zucker June 16, 2022 12:42 am Hi fellow Elvis club reps,
Thank you to everyone who has already registered to run EERR’s Midsummer 5km Elvis race next Tuesday 21 June.
We are aware that a National Rail and Tube strike has now been scheduled for that day. We appreciate that this may cause disruption for some participants, but after careful consideration we have decided to progress with the event as planned.
There is a chance that the strike will be called off (fingers crossed). However, if that doesn’t happen, we hope participants will find a way of attending as everyone here at East End Road Runners is super excited to host the event. It is after all the longest day of the year so even if it takes longer than usual to travel, you should make it home before it gets dark! We promise to make attending the event worth your while with a fast course and a fun and friendly atmosphere.
We hope you find the following information useful:
Location The race village and start/finish is located at Hopkins Field (near Waterden Road), Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, E20 3BS. Toilets and changing are located about 400 metres away at the Velopark at E20 3AB.

As we are a non-profit club with a number of fixed overheads for hosting this race, we regret that we will be unable to offer refunds to anyone who can’t make it. However, as fellow runners, we hope you will appreciate that your entrance fee will go towards supporting running and the fitness of our members and of our local community.
With many thanks
Jamie Zucker (EERR chair and race director)

Subject: Pacing in Elvis Races Message from Martin Clarke June 15, 2022 4:36 pm Hi Folks, Well done to Darren and the team at H90J for organizing as great race last night. Regretfully I have received a complaint regarding some pacing that was taking place at the front of the women’s race whereby a runner without a number was pacing the lead, Morgan Campbell of Havering AC for most of the race, the unentered runner ducking out at the end. There was some justice that Morgan eventually only finished 2nd but even so this is totally unfair on other runners and a clear violation of the rules and spirit of Elvis. Whilst I would not wish to interfere with the actual race result which always falls within the sovereignty of the hosting club race organisers, I have to make a decision with regard to the Elvis series for although Morgan doesn’t belong to an Elvis Club she does qualify in the individual competition. My intention is therefore to void Morgan’s result for this race only from the Elvis series. If anybody has any objection to this or wants to express any mitigating circumstances or other comments please let me know. I will put something on the facebook page to restate that pacing by any runner not in the race is unacceptable in Elvis and is likely to result in disqualification. Can I also ask that Race officials and especially organisers look out for this type of thing and if spotted they are perfectly entitled to request (politely) that the unentered runner (no number) immediately leave the course. I do of course recognize that volunteer marshals might be reluctant to use this authority even if they are aware of it but it would greatly help that at the very least any such violation of the rules is reported to the race organizer/referee at the end of the race so that a decision can be made prior to prizegiving. Many thanks Martin
