Dear athlete,
East End Road Runners (the purples) are super excited to welcome you to our Midsummer 5km tomorrow evening. We really hope you can find a way through the rail and Tube strike to celebrate the longest day of the year with a run in the sunshine in the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and a drink at our purple after-party.
With just 24 hours to go, here is your pre-race briefing (please read it carefully)….
General Information
Start time: The race starts at 7.30pm. Please arrive with plenty of time to collect your race number. The registration desk will be open between 6.30pm and 7.20pm.
Race Location: Hopkins Field, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (northern section), E20 3BS. Please note, this is adjacent to the Here East complex in Waterden Road.
Toilets and Changing: Toilets and changing facilities will be available in the Velopark, E20 3AB. This is about 400m to the east of the start area.
Water: For environmental reasons, single use plastic bottles of water will not routinely be provided. Runners are strongly encouraged to bring their own bottles (clearly labelled to avoid confusion). Large water containers will be available for the refill of bottles.
Timing: The race will be chip-timed to allow runners to have an individual time. However, the results for the race will be based on gun times.
Course and timing: It is a fast 2-lap course. Please run over the timing mat at the start, middle and end of the race to ensure your time (and split) are recorded accurately.
Prizes: A prize giving ceremony will take place immediately following the race. There will be 14 prizes based on gun-time results: 1st (£25), 2nd (£15) and 3rd (£10) overall male and female; 1st male and female vet in age categories 40, 50, 60 and 70 (at £10 each). There will be a maximum of one prize per person.
After-party: All participants are warmly invited to celebrate the longest day of the year by attending a special Midsummer party at Mother Kelly’s bar, 27-30 Victory Parade, East Village, E20 1FS. This is about 10 mins’ walk from the finish area.
Baggage drop: Clubs affiliated to the ELVIS series are encouraged to organise their own bag drops. Unaffiliated runners may leave their bags in the small unofficial baggage drop provided by the registration desk. Bags are left at owner’s risk. Additionally, lockers are available in the Velopark.
Bike storage: Bikes must not be left by the start/finish area. They must be locked and secured in the available bike racks, the closest of which is located outside Clarinco Club Cafe on Waterden Rd, E15 2GY.
Travel Information
We appreciate there is a rail and Tube strike planned. We hope you find the information below useful.
Buses Buses 388, 97, 308, and W15 all stop within a 10 mins’ walk of the start. A larger number of buses also serve Stratford Bus Station, which is around 25-30 mins walk from the start area.
Cycling There are five Santander Cycles stations (available for hire or docking) located within 5-mins’ walk of the start area. There are also numerous bike racks in the area for cyclists bringing their own bikes (please bring your own lock). The closest racks are located outside Clarinco Club Cafe on Waterden Rd, E15 2GY.
Car Parking There are two large multi-storey carparks in the vicinity for which parking charges apply: · The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Multi-Story Car Park (E15 2HB) is located by the Here East complex, just 5 mins’ walk from the race village. · Stratford International Station Car Park (E20 1YY) is located by Stratford International Station, which is about 15 mins’ walk away.
If travelling by car, we strongly encourage car sharing.
By foot In case you choose to walk or jog to the race, there are toilet and changing facilities (with lockers) available in the Velopark.
Rail and Tube According to the media, some Tube and rail lines are expected to operate a limited service with approximately 20% of train services until 6.30pm (which will help people travel to the race although require another means of transport home). Please check with the provider, TfL or City Mapper/Google Maps etc before attempting to make a journey.
Please be aware that Stratford, Stratford International, Hackney Wick and Leyton stations are all within a 20-mins’ walk of the start.
Stratford station is served by a variety of Tube and Rail options, including the Central Line, Jubilee Line, Elizabeth Line, the London Overground the DLR and Greater Anglia rail services. Stratford International station is served by the High Speed South-Eastern train from St Pancras.
See you tomorrow Love from EERR (the Purples)
